I’m hiring a chief of staff :)

Hi friends,

I'm hiring a Chief of Staff to work with me at Flybridge. This is a role I've been thinking about for a while, and I wanted to share it personally with my network in hopes of finding the right person.

Let me start with why I'm still at Flybridge after more than a decade. A lot of people might think it’s the returns or the portfolio. It’s not….though those are great 😅. It's how Jeff and Chip built this place.

When I first joined, I kept waiting for them to act like typical senior partners…pulling rank / dictating decisions. Instead, they'd share their perspective from decades of experience, then turn to me and ask, "What do you think we should do?"

At first I thought it was a test. But they genuinely wanted my input. Their philosophy is to build and empower people to outlast themselves. That approach has shaped everything about how I want to work with whoever joins me in this role.

A lot of CoS roles = managing calendars / taking notes. Not this one (I can use AI for that). Instead, you’ll be in the room with me for board meetings, founder pitches, partner discussions, and LP updates. Helping me think through what we're seeing and what we should do about it.

One morning, we might be debating whether to invest in a company reshaping how developers build AI applications. That afternoon, we're making sure our portfolio companies get connected to the right customers + talent.

Some days, we’ll dive deep into competitive landscapes. Others, we’ll step back and ask bigger questions about where markets are heading. What makes this role special is the access you’ll get and the learning curve.

The network you build here is yours to keep. The relationships with founders, other VCs, and operators will serve you well beyond this role. Our team is generous with knowledge. From Jeff and Chip to our other partners who've built and sold companies. Everyone here wants to help you learn. If you want to understand how venture really works, this is a unique opportunity to learn by doing.

The logistics:

  • NYC-based, in office five days/week

  • Travel with me 1x/mo to Boston

  • Couple trips a year to SF

  • Comp ~ $100-150k

If you know someone who'd be good for this, please pass it along. If this sounds interesting, apply here.

Thanks,

Jesse
